Welcome Autumn

FALL...

the season of glorious colors, chilly breezes and warm fires...Its that time of year when those busy days of summer are coming to an end and we start to slow the pace and prepare for the coming winter. Its time for football games and bonfires, Apple Cider and pumpkin pie. Its the time of year to bundle up in your favorite sweater..then head to the local farmers market to find that perfect pumpkin. The air seems clearer..crisper and the days grow shorter while  piles of leaves in countless yards just wait to be jumped in by rosy cheeked children.  The smell of apple cider and pumpkin spice scents the air and thoughts start wandering to Halloween parties and thanksgiving dinners.  Fall..Natures most colorful display and my favorite time of the year.....

Welcome Fall

The sights and the sounds,
the smells in the air
the crisp cool nights
color bursting everywhere

Pumpkin pies
cooling on a kitchen window sill...
The summer air now holds
a brisk autumn chill.

Leaves turn to colors
of red, orange and gold,
painting the mountains
with beauty untold.

Chill fall nights
by warm glowing fires
sipping on cider
while passing the hours...

Long slow walks
thru leaf covered lanes,
admiring the beauty
that the season brings.

Travelocity Honors the Black Walnut Festivalâ„¢

Local Secrets, Big Finds:WV

West Virginia

"It can be hard to get the meat out of the tenacious black walnut, but when you do, it's worth the sweet reward." Lucky for you, someone's already done all the work at this small-town festival with lots of good food and crafts.

"The walnuts find their way into everything," from baked goods and candy to ice cream and salads. Kids can take to the carnival rides, one-room school tours, and two parades. The majorette and festival queen contests can sometimes get heated, so if you're looking for respite you can browse some of the antique shows.

autumn leaves

The falling leaves drift by the window ...The autumn leaves of red and gold. I see your lips, the summer kisses... The sun-burned hands I used to hold.... Since you went away, the days grow long And soon Ill hear old winters song.... But I miss you most of all my darling, When autumn leaves start to fall...

September fire
lights the mountains
in colors of red and gold...
burning away the summer green
to make way for winters cold.

Leaves of ember float to the valley
like confettie from a rainbow sky,
sprinkling the landscape with color
as the autumn winds blow by.
